Adventures in Lifestyle Design from a Path Less Traveled

My 1-year experiment is over now so I’m not going to be doing weekly updates anymore on earnings. Instead I’m going to be scaling back on monthly updates so I have more time to write about other things. I know I just did my week 52 update last Friday, but it’s the end of the month, so I’m doing my August update now.
In August, I made $2508.95. If you factor out the AffiloJetpack sales I got at the beginning of the month, I got $1820.87 from my niche sites. Here’s the breakdown:
Website #1 – $129.59
Website #2 – $148.71
Website #3 – $366.79
Website #4 – $768.71
Website #5 – $0 (on hold)
Website #6 – $424.02
Website #7 – $0
AffiloJetpack – $688.08 (Thanks again guys!)
Other Shenanigans – $20.19
This month was really busy. My girlfriend and I moved out of our apartment in Seattle and now we’re living at my Mom’s house in the suburbs (buy my $147 $97 training course and I’ll show you how to make hundreds of dollars a month and eventually get to the point where you can move back in with your parents too!).
I haven’t even touched my own websites in several weeks. I’ve been so busy working on Jetpack bonuses. (I feel really bad about how long all these bonuses are taking. To the Affilo 5: Don’t worry guys I haven’t forgotten about you, it’s just tough to juggle all of you and move out of my apartment at the same time. I suck! Maybe next time I’ll offer to let you kick me in the balls as a bonus…).
Anyway, I’d like to wrap up the bonus stuff before I leave and also finish up my article marketing regimen on my own websites. The next few weeks are going to be very busy.
I’m also planning 5 more websites to slowly piece together while I’m traveling. These are going to be part of a totally awesome weekly experiment that I’m planning for after I return. Stay tuned for more details :)
But there’s really not much else to write about in August since I covered it during the final few weeks of my 1-year experiment.

Jackass has an opening for talent right now in the nut kick department.
Congrats on reaching the 1-year mark of not only successfully making money online, but actually keeping up with your blog!
It looks as if you achieved your goal of making a living online. :)
I just suggested to one of the commentator’s on my blog that he pick up a copy of your “How to make money” guide. You might want to add an “Buy Now” button or link to it though… ;)
@Clayton, does this mean an end to the clickbank screenshots?
“buy my $147 $97 training course and I’ll show you how to make hundreds of dollars a month and eventually get to the point where you can move back in with your parents too!” Ha Ha Ha damn thats great copywriting.
Another sweet month mate, just out of curiosity, how much of your income do you spend on outsourcing and memberships (AMA, UAW etc) each month?
keep up the good work, you inspire many to keep going (with the goal of moving back in with our moms).
Rodderz
@Justin, Thanks for the tip. I’ll keep that in mind as an alternative career opportunity in case this whole internet things falls apart…
@Yolanda, Thanks, I guess I make enough money to scrape by, but I’d like to make more so I can actually enjoy life more. I guess that’s the goal for the next year :)
@Michelle, Thanks, but I think you might be confusing me with someone else. Perhaps Chris Guthrie, another Seattlite with glasses?
@Dennis, Hay man! I’m not really sure… For the time being, I’m going to show screen shots on a monthly basis. But part of me feels like it’s getting to the point where might come off as bragging or something. I don’t know… I’ll have to think this over.
I’m planning a weekly experiment for after I get back from Thailand though. I’ll be posting a different kind of screen shot for that one though ;)
@Rodderz, Thanks. Up until a few weeks ago, I was spending about $300-$350 per month for my writer and AMA / UAW. I recently signed up with Offshore Ally for an extra $200 / month. So, I guess I’m spending about $500 / month even though the fruits of Offshore Ally haven’t come yet.
Don’t think so… Someone on my blog asked if my mom had room at her house for another budding internet marketer. I said no, but that you had a new guide out that could show him how to earn hundreds in internet marketing so he too could live with his parents. I sent him here, but just realized there’s no “Buy Now” button. I think he might be disappointed…
(wink, wink)
Awesome stuff in the last year – you really are living the NR lifestyle. I can’t wait to see what stuff you’ve got planned after Thailand.
Very nice earnings. Congrats on the new home. Looking forward to more updates!
Hey Clayton,
Congrats. Do you make the money first before you outsource or you go ahead to outsource? Normally, how many AMA articles do you submit per month to push your sites to first page of google?
Cheers
Javier
P.S Do let us know when you are coming to Singapore so I can take leave to meetup with you. November my outsource writer is coming to Singapore too. haha
Thanks for the last official post from the series, i came to this updates in week 46, since then i read all your other articles and learned a lot from them.
Wish you and your girlfriend a great time in thailand, hope to read more from you soon.
Thank for the heads up about your costs Clayton.
You are making some really decent money (profit) from your sites now, many congratulations.
Hopefully when I start outsourcing things will really pick up like they have done for you.
@Michelle, Thanks. Note to self: write ebook teaching people how to make hundreds and move in with parents… ;)
@Devin, Thanks. It’s going to be another weekly experiment to find out the most time- and cost-effective ways of getting traffic to a new website. I’m going to build 4 or 5 new sites on the road and then start marketing them in different ways when I get back to see where I should be focusing most of my time. I’m looking forward to this :)
@Jared, Thanks but I didn’t get a new house. I am just staying with my mom to save money while traveling to South East Asia. I don’t know how I would manage if I had to pay $1000 a month in rent back in Seattle while I was vagabonding through Thailand…
@Javier, Outsource as soon as you can. If you have a job then you can start much sooner than if you’re relying on all your IM profits to pay for it. The sooner you start, the faster the money comes in :)
AMA varies from month to month. It just depends on what phase I’m at in the whole process. If I’m in backlink mode, then I might submit 3 or 4 articles to AMA per day. Other times I might not submit any at all.
It’s not 100% settled yet, but I THINK I’m going to be in Singapore during the first week of November (I still have to figure out all the logistics of Thailand visas). I know that there are at least 3 people that read my blog in Singapore and I’d love to meet you all!
@Sebastian, Thanks, I’m glad that this blog has taught you a few tricks. I am both excited and terrified about going to Thailand…
@Rodderz, Yeah, things definitely start to speed up after you’ve been through the process a few times and you start outsourcing. Good luck!
Very impressive stats; so glad I stumbled across your blog.
The main obstacle I have right now is finding good writers to outsource too .. I know they exist, and I’ve worked with a couple, but part me won’t “let go” and I generate my content myself. I need to find a good fit and just run with it.
Thanks for the inspiration.
@Maria, Thanks, I guess you learn a lot about yourself when your starting a business. Especially when you start to scale things up. I’m much more of a control freak than I thought…
@Clayton
Great to hear that you may be coming to Singapore on first week of November as my outsource writer is coming too. It will be cool to have a meetup, remember to post on your blog in advance when you are coming so we can arrange a meeting place.
I have started my outsource coming to 2 months and I can say it really speed up my content and work. Hope to see the profits and SE ranking start climbing so can make it a profitable business like you.
Cheers
Javier
@Javier, Cool. It would be great to meet you in person in a few months :)
Yeah outsourcing is pretty sweet. I can’t speak for other people, but the way I’ve built my business is to just keep building websites until one starts earning money. Then just focus on that niche. Sometimes some niches just don’t earn as much. Maybe you approach it from the wrong angle, maybe you just can’t connect with your visitors the right way, maybe it’s just too competitive. The more sites you build, the better your chances of success, and the faster you’ll find niches that “just work.”
Hope to see you in November. You’re friends with Vincent, right? It would be cool to meet him too!
@Clayton
Yeah. Know Vincent through the army days. We can’t wait to see you and see someone living the lifestyle we want to be in person. Anyway, you mentioned 3 person in Singapore you want to meet. Who’s the third?
Cheers
Javier
@Javier, It’s one of the guys that got AffiloJetpack through my link. I’m pretty sure I can’t reveal his name for ethical reasons, though.
LOL! My lifestyle really isn’t all that glamorous. After I pay for AMA, UAW and outsourcing I only make about $1000 a month, which doesn’t really go that far in the US. Plus my girlfriend just quit her job, so now $1000 has to take care of both of us for the next few months. It’s going to be tight, but I think we’ll get by okay. Maybe a year from now I’ll be truly living the good life :)
Aloha Clayton, I enjoyed your post and your candid forwardness and your thoughtfulness for considering others. Awesome to see your results and hope to get some golden nuggets from your tips. Thanks for sharing! Lanikee.com :)
PS..feel free to stop by. Mahalo!
@Lani, Thanks! Hawaii sounds great. Never been there yet, though…
