Adventures in Lifestyle Design from a Path Less Traveled

I’m off to the desert of Nevada.
No, I’m not going to blow all my money on gambling in an attempt to delude myself into thinking that, for a few brief days, I’m not a broke loser who’s just scraping by through life.
After some consideration, I’ve decided to go to attend Clay Collins‘ live mastermind meet up in Las Vegas.
I haven’t really advertised this much, but I joined Clay’s Marketing Program a few months ago. I haven’t been able to put much of what I’ve learned into action since up until last week, I didn’t have a product to leverage all the marketing tactics with. He’s doing several live in-person meetings with the members over the course of the next year or so. At first I wasn’t going to go because the cost of a plane ticket and a one-star motel room is kind of a lot for a scrappy slouch like me to take.
But I decided that I need to be serious about growing my business. I’m not going to become a internet marketing baller by letting opportunities pass me by. Yes, my personal budget is tight, but investing in myself and in my business is really the only way that I’m ever going to change things. (Maybe this does count as “gambling” after all!)
After having this realization (and having a panic attack thinking about shelling out $400 for travel and lodging), I clicked the button confirming my attendance.
Besides, it’s good to get out of your comfort zone from time to time and actually meet some real people instead of skulking in the dark corners of a coffee shop all day.
So, I’m off to PDX airport to head out into the desert to visit Las Vegas.
I’ve never been to Las Vegas before (or even Nevada for that matter). I have a suspicion that I’m going to be extremely out of my element. After nearly two years of scraping by and feeling only slightly better off than a cockroach, I’m off to attend some kind of event in the opulent Bellagio hotel put on by “one of the best internet marketers in the world.” (from Clay’s website)
I hope they have free food :)
Okay, so this really isn’t how I pictured my first trip to Las Vegas. I mean, shouldn’t I be wearing a tuxedo and “risking it all” on one roll of the dice?
Part of me always fantasized about going to Affiliate Summit West and meeting Mark Ling in person, but I guess that will have to wait till next year.
Well, Clay Collins, if you ever somehow stumble across and read my obscure blog, I hope you’ve got some good stuff planned. Or at least an open bar or a buffet :)
Hey Clayton,
All the best for the trip. Enjoy the process and think positively so great positive things will be attracted to you. Do share with us after the trip.
Cheers
Javier
@Javier, Thanks. So far the trip has really been worth it! One day down, one more to go :)
It’s always a good idea to invest in yourself (and also to do something that scares you). I bet you get a lot out of this trip.
And don’t worry – free drinks at the casino and $3-10 all you can eat buffet’s all over Vegas…
@Joe, Thanks. So far, things have been great. This is some exciting stuff.
The buffets seem to be more expensive though.
You’ll bring a LOT back from this trip, I’m sure.
It’s the PERFECT opportunity to network with people in IM. ‘Real people’! People you may be able to form a profitable partnership with in the near future, or even work together on products and such. That’s not to mention the sessions of bouncing ideas off each other about all sorts and everything to do with IM.
You could easily make this trip worth many times more than the $400 you’re paying ;)
Grab this opportunity Clayton and embrace it!
Ben.
@Ben, Thanks! Yeah, I was really nervous about it, but I’m SO glad I went! Every person I met there was absolutely awesome!
I didn’t care too much for the city though…

There must be something special about Clay Collins program. I look forward to read your future posting to see how it benefited you tremendously.
@Kheng, Yeah, I feel like I just “fell down the rabbit hole” so to speak.
Good to hear from you again. How are you doing these days?
