2011 Is Half Over

Well, now we’ve done it.

Somehow, we’ve survived through the first 6 months of 2011.

Remember all those resolutions we made at the beginning of the year?  Have they just become vague shadow in the back of our minds?  Or have we actually made any progress?

For me, the past 3 months or so (since I did the 3 month 2011 update) have been an absolutely crazy ride.  It seems like things have just flowed from one explosive moment to the next, taking me from sitting in a Motel 6 in Las Vegas, having beers with some pretty big name bloggers (why would they want to hang out with misfit like me?), and really pushing myself outside of my comfort zone.

Things have changed a lot in the past 3 months, and I think a lot of my goals may have shifted, but let’s take a look anyway…

Changing Course and Focusing on What Works

There are two important things I wanted to write about today.

A lot has been going on lately.  I created a product.  I’ve been meeting some other people who are into marketing / blogging / etc., and I’ve basically been having an avalanche of new ideas.

But in a lot of ways the focus of this blog has still been fairly narrow (SEO and affiliate marketing)

That’s what I’ve focused on because that is what has been most real and on my mind, but I also fear that it may alienate some people who somehow stumble across this blog who aren’t SEO geeks, like me.

The Pursuit of a Meaning-Filled Life

Okay.  I admit it.

I snuck into the World Domination Summit last weekend.

Chris Guillebeau, if you read this, I’m sorry.  But, hey, it’s not like my presence was taking anything away from bona fide attendees.  Besides, you guys also had a lot of meetings out in that public park outside where lurking degenerates, like me, could eavesdrop.

Anyway, there was a lot of great energy in the air.  Optimism and positivity were palpable!  (All while I was trying to cope with a dull sense of anxiety that someone would identify me as an intruder and kick me out)

But what really hit me, was that we are in the midst of a very real social movement.

The Last Call (Update on My Free Thing)

Hey, I hope you’re having a great weekend.  This is going to be a fairly short post.

If you’re not in Portland, Oregon now for the World Domination Summit, I hope you’re having fun wherever you may be.

Unfortunately, I am in Portland, but I couldn’t get tickets to the World Domination Summit.  I think they sold out in December or January, and at the time I only had about $1,500 in my bank account and didn’t want to spend it so readily (Going to Thailand was still worth it, though!).

Yesterday, I lurked around downtown Portland, surveying the security situation and trying to see if it would be possible to sneak into the World Domination Summit.

Do You Want This? (I Might Make a Free Thing)

[Note #1: I’m thinking about giving away a free product to you... if you’re potentially interested.  It’s going to take some time to put together, so I want to make sure you’re actually interested before I go crazy making it.  More details at the bottom of this post.]

[Note #2: This post is a follow up to this post from last week, in case it’s been a while since you’ve visited this blog.]

The Story of How I Ended Up Making Money with Affiliate Marketing

Something that even a lot of “old timers” who have read my blog from pretty much the beginning (Keith are you still out there?) don’t know is that Affilorama wasn’t really my first introduction to internet marketing.

I got started during an incredibly soul-sucking architecture internship during the summer before my last year of grad school.
