Website Building Update – Week 18

Alright, a new year! I had some friends over for a few days, so I’m a day late update this week.
I wanted to take a moment to log my monthly income from my first four months of this stuff:
- First Month (September) – $184.50 (I was using PPC)
- Second Month (October) – $38.74 (Quit using PPC — too expensive)
- Third Month (November) – $134.43
- Fourth Month (December) – $317.27
With the holidays and everything, I haven’t been able to focus too much on these websites. The sales from last week have died down a bit, but I’ve had a few more roll in none the less.
Hope you all had a good new year!

Hi Clayton
Very inspiring to see your screenshot every week.
Would you mind sharing your click-through rate?

… and of course Clickbank Order Form Sale Conversion Rate.
How many clicks leads to sale on average?

@ StrongFarmer I actually tend to get a pretty high clickthrough rate from my website to the merchant’s sales page. It varies from website to website, but the average is something like 30-40% CTR. I think a lot of it also depends on the niche too.
I haven’t noticed a pattern with order form impression count. Generally, if you get a spike in order form impression counts, it seems that someone is on the fence about buying the product and the keep coming back to order form working up the “courage” to buy.
Overall conversation rates of hop clicks to sales depends a lot on the niche. I have a “get your ex back” website that has been converting like crazy and significantly out-performing my other sites. Something around 1 in 30 or 1 in 40 hops per order. If people are hungry for a solution to their problem, then they are much more likely to click (and buy).

hey clayton, i just stumbled across your blog and found i am in the same position, well just behind
i see you have a bright future ahead of you!
what kind of marketing do you do to your sites? where does the majority of the traffic come from? is it organic seo? article marketing?
also with afilorama sites, do you find the optin boxes to affect conversions? my best preforming site does not have a optin box and it is also in the get ex back niche…

@ John, thanks for stopping by my blog and thanks for your comments. My marketing consists primarily of doing article marketing and submitting articles to blog networks. I do article marketing, but it is primarily for backlinks and not for traffic. Most traffic comes from search engines. Honestly, I have not had much luck with opt-in boxes and e-mail marketing yet. It might improve when I get higher amounts of traffic, though.

Hey Clayton, bounced back from Affilorama to look at your blog. Nice stuff and I can see you are probably going to be the next super affiliate! The dedication is there.
Does any one of your websites feature on the first pages of the search engines for your keywords and niches? If I look at your CTR you must be sitting pretty in some or another search engine.
Keep at it.

@William, Hey, thanks for checking out my blog. I’m on the first page of Google for a couple of keywords. I don’t rank “up there” though. Only like position 8, 9, or 10. Surprisingly, being on the first page doesn’t guarantee a flood of sales (like I used to think). It really depends on how many searches a keyword gets. The more searches the more people will search deeper and get to your site (even if it’s on page 2).
It takes longer, but once Yahoo and Bing pick up your website, I’ve noticed that it’s easier to rank on the first page for a lot of terms. Too bad these search engines don’t get more traffic though…
